The story behind 3dkeycap
3dkeycap started with a simple gift — Loïc’s first custom keyboard from a friend. What began as curiosity quickly turned into passion, leading him to design, print, and hand-paint his own keycaps. After sharing photos online, people immediately wanted their own, and what started as a creative hobby soon grew into something much bigger.
Who we are
From a small Etsy shop to a growing Shopify store, 3dkeycap continued to evolve alongside the keyboard community. As the brand expanded, Micah joined to help create a better customer experience and share the story behind every keycap through content and support. Later, Marie and Alexy became part of the journey, carefully handling production and packaging to ensure every order is made with attention and care.
Today, 3dkeycap is still a small but passionate team dedicated to creating unique, handcrafted keycaps for keyboard enthusiasts around the world, combining creativity, personalization, and craftsmanship in every piece we make.

2023
First Keycap
Loïc made his first custom keycap as a fun project. After sharing pictures of it, people expressed interest in buying it. This became the start of 3dkeycap: a fun project that organically grew into a business.
November 2023
More Keycaps
More keycaps were made available, including arrow pattern and full sets. Available in multiple materials, colors, processes.
January 2024
In-House Resin Production
Initially the keycaps were made by a third party (then hand painted by Roberto and Loic) but a lot of the keycaps received had to be scrapped due to poor surface quality. In addition to that the resins were too brittle. Hence it was time to get our own printer to step up our quality and gain more control over our products.
Mai 2024
Custom Eco-Friendly Packaging
We started offering full keycap sets for split keyboards and needed a good way to package them for shipping.It was important for us to use eco-friendly materials. We designed and started laser cutting custom packaging in house, out of cardboard.
February 2024
Colored Resins
Being able to make colored keycaps became important. After using a method by which we would dye white keycaps, we realized that this had clear downsides. Hence we spent months testing methods to add colored pigments into our resin before 3d printing the keycaps. This new process allowed for more vibrant colors that are longer lasting and very even.
June 2024
UV Printing
Adding legends onto our keycaps was a must have. So we invested into the biggest and most expensive machine that we now own: a UV Printer. This printer, unlike your office printer, can be loaded with items instead of just paper. It then uses a special ink that UV cures, to print on many materials. Since our keycaps are effectively made of UV activated polymers, the ink bonds to them really well!

Flexy Keyboard Proof of Concept
Discovered an innovative solution for a new type of ergonomic keyboard. Preliminary tests were conducted to validate the concept and green-light the project.
